He studied law at Stockholm University College, earning his LL.M. degree in 1957 and becoming a member of the Swedish Bar Association in 1967. As a young lawyer, Mörner met Åke Wiberg and began working within Wiberg’s legal practice. Specializing in family law, he became renowned for his legal expertise and for his ability to see and empathize with people beyond the purely legal aspects. In 1957, he joined the Åke Wiberg Foundation as a board member and in 1978 became Chair of the Board, a position he held until 2007. During his long tenure, Mörner introduced several important reforms that helped the foundation grow in size and significance. Outside of his work as Chair and family law attorney, Mörner had many other interests. His knowledge of classical literature was exceptional, often reflected in witty and elegant speeches at dinners. He was also deeply interested in design and architecture, ranging from jewelry design to creating architectural plans for houses that were later built. Göran Mörner passed away in 2021 at the age of 93.
